    National “Love Your Pet” Day

    Today Pray:

In Your infinite wisdom, Lord God, when You created the universe. You blessed us with all living creatures. We especially thank You for giving us our pets who are our friends and who bring us so much joy in life. Their presence very often helps us get through trying times. Kindly bless my pet and all pets.

May my pet continue giving me joy and remind me of Your power. May we realize that as our pets trust us to take care of them, so we should trust You to take care of us, and in taking care of them we share in Your love for all Your creatures.

Enlighten our minds to preserve all endangered species so that we may continue to appreciate all Your creatures. Amen.

Now is the time to consider what Lent is going to mean to us this year. Today, the Friars invite you to join Fr. David as we reflect on "The Three Pillars of Lent" - Prayer, Fasting, and Almsgiving.

Prayer during Lent offers us a special opportunity to grow in our relationship with God and to reinforce our commitment to the Gospel way of life. Fasting helps us to stop thinking about ourselves and start thinking about what truly matters in life, and Jesus teaches that Giving to the poor means making the needs of others our own.

The poor are all around us: the hungry and homeless who are often children, the elderly, the sick and the suffering, families and the mentally ill. Whenever we give something of ourselves, something that makes us feel the cost, we will receive blessings from God in return.

The Franciscan Friars serve over 2 million poor and desperate who come to our doors each year. We need your help now to continue our programs of feeding the hungry, giving clothing to those in need, and formula and diapers for infants who have practically nothing.

Your Lenten gift can help so many who need our help each day. We need your wonderful generosity this Lent to help make the lives of the poor more livable. In deciding, decide generously. After all, Jesus gave himself—all of himself-up for us. May this Lent of 2021 make all the difference in the world to you!

    Pray Today:

Dear Lord, each day’s breaking news reveals a shaken earth and, sometimes, my shaken self. Be my refuge in my sorrow and dismay. Remind me, Jesus, that you are no stranger to loss and pain.

For rescue workers and victims of natural disasters that they be supported by the presence of God and by efforts of the world community.

    Conclude your prayer with:

Lord, may the grace of this holy season open my heart to your life and love. Stir your spirit within me that I may follow your way of generous service and ready forgiveness.

    Daily Scripture Reflection:

“God is our refuge and our strength, an ever-present help in distress. Therefore we fear not, though the earth be shaken and mountains plunge into the depths of the sea.” –Psalm 46:2-3

    Pray Today:

Loving God, You blessed the Virgin Mary with the fullness of grace. May she be my model of faith, hope, and love. I dedicate this day to her and ask for her protection and motherly love.

Holy God, I place these petitions into her care (mention your prayer requests).

With her help, allow my faith to grow. Instill in me the virtue of hope, and help me to bring this hope to others. Guide me in understanding Your boundless love, and help me share that love with others. Remind me of her wonderful generosity and help me to be always generous with all that I have.

Holy God, join my heart with Mary’s tender, loving heart so that, like her, I may love unconditionally and pray unceasingly. May her prayer, the gift of a mother’s love, be mine through all my days. I ask all this through Christ Our Lord, Amen.

Join Fr. David as we reflect on the First Pillar of Lent— Prayer.

Prayer during Lent offers us a special opportunity to grow in our relationship with God and to reinforce our commitment to the Gospel way of life.

Pope Francis said, “Lent is a privileged time for prayer.” The Pope was quoting St. Augustine, who described giving to charity and fasting as “the two wings of prayer,” because they are signs of humility and charity.

But sometimes we forget that someone who needs us to pray for them is ourselves. Every day, we may feel lonely, troubled with worries, and may simply feel overwhelmed withal that is happening in our world. Never be afraid to tell God about what’s bothering you. Give your troubles over to God, He can carry anything!

We need your prayers and wonderful generosity this Lent to help make the lives of the poor more livable. The poor are all around us: the hungry and homeless who are often children, the elderly, the sick and the suffering, families and the mentally ill.

After all, Jesus gave himself — all of himself — up for us. May this Lent of 2021 make all the difference in the world to you!

    Daily Scripture Reflection:

“Then we, your people, the sheep of your pasture, give thanks to you forever; from generation to generation we will recount your praise.” –Psalm 79:13
